XVII April International Academic Conference on Economic and Social Development

April 19-21, 2016 in Moscow, Russia

 

Dear Colleagues,

We are happy to invite you to participate in the International Symposium “Education and Social Inequality” held by the Institute of Education, HSE.

The Symposium will invite an academic discussion on education and social inequality from international perspective, considering the ways for educational systems to respond to social inequality and other forms of social stratification. Participants to the conference are invited to address the theme of social inequality in and through education from perspectives of their various disciplines, theoretical and pragmatic views and geographic locations. 

The Symposium will be one of the major streams of a larger conference held at HSE University annually, that is, the International Academic Conference on Economic and Social Development. The Conference attracts distinguished scholars in social and behavioral sciences from Russia, Europe, Asia, and America. About 1,500 scholars usually take part in the event. The plenary sessions and special round tables feature senior Russian Government officials, high-level representatives of the World Bank, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and the CEOs of the largest Russian and international companies.


 At the International symposium "Education and Social Inequality" the key speakers will be:

- Henry M. Levin (Columbia University)

The William Heard Kilpatrick Professor of Economics and Education at Teachers College, Columbia University.  Co-Director of the Center for Benefit-Cost Studies in Education.
 
- Michael J. Feuer (George Washington University)
President of the National Academy of Education, Dean of the Graduate School of Education & Human Development Professor, Education, a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and of the American Educational Research Association.
 
- Martin Carnoy (Stanford University)
Vida Jacks Professor of Education, Member of the National Academy of Education, International Academy of Education.
 
- Richard Murnane (Harvard University)
The Thompson Research Professor at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research. Chair of the Center for Education Advisory Board, National Research Council.
 
- Michelle V. Jackson (Stanford University)
An Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology, Stanford University and an Associate Member of Nuffield College, Oxford.
 
- David Konstantinovsky (Russian Academy of Sciences)
Institute for Sociology, Deputy director, Doctor of sciences.
 
Important Dates


- Deadline for submission: Deсember 15, 2015
- Notification of acceptance: January 25, 2016
- Deadline for final paper submission: May 25, 2016
- Online registration for participation without presenting a paper will be available from December 16, 2015 until March 22, 2016 at (REGISTRATION LINK)
 
Registration
We invite you to register online (REGISTRATION LINK) and to submit an extended abstract of the research paper for presentation. A detailed summary of the proposed presentation should be attached to the application, in Word or PDF file, in 1-3 pages with 1.5 line spacing (up to 7000 symbols).

The abstract should include the following information:

- title of the paper;
- three to five key words;
- research question, research motivation;
- theoretical/conceptual framework;
- source of the data;
- description of the research design and methods of the analysis;
- main findings and conclusions. 

 The Symposium Program Committee is chaired by Isak Froumin, Academic advisor of the Institute of Education, HSE Russia and Martin Carnoy, Guest Professor at HSE, professor Stanford University.
 
Working languages of the Conference are Russian and English. Simultaneous translation will be available during all plenary and some parallel session meetings.
