We are pleased to announce two International Symposiums on Education to be held during the 20th HSE April International Academic Conference on Economic and Social Development in Moscow, Russia.

The Symposium "Well-being, Education and Socio-Economic Development" is devoted to different aspects and concepts of well-being (including health, psychological well-being, subjective happiness and life satisfaction of students), as well as to how they relate to education.

The speakers and participants will discuss, in particular, the following topics:

  • Which factors influence the well-being of students and other actors in the learning process?
  • Does one's educational level have an impact on well-being? What is the correlation between academic achievement and the well-being of students and families?
  • How is increasing well-being associated with inequality in education?
  • Which changes are necessary in schools in order to enhance the well-being of children, teachers and parents?
  • Which data and methods can be used to study well-being?
  • How is well-being linked to the development of digital technologies, including digital technologies in education?

The second Symposium, “Economics, Sociology and Politics of Education,” will combine various disciplinary perspectives on theoretical and empirical issues in education (primarily, relating to economics, sociology and politics of education). The focus of this Symposium is on transitioning to the investment model in education, developing human capital, advancing public-private partnership and personalized financing models, etc.

Papers presented at the Conference should describe the results of original research based on up-to-date research methodology. An extended abstract (700–1,000 words) must be attached to the application form in either MS Word or RTF formats. An abstract should clearly state the problem being studied, as well as describe the approach to its solution (i.e., if there is a model based on a given analysis) and the main outcomes. In addition, the abstract should indicate the novelty of the obtained results in comparison with previously published works. The abstract should be in Russian or English. Proposals that do not meet these requirements WILL NOT be considered.

The Program Committee also welcomes proposals from groups of potential participants. In such cases, applicants should first apply online as individual participants and then fill in an additional form to request that their presentations be scheduled for the same session (both documents should be submitted by November 12, 2018). Please note that an applicant may submit one individual paper and no more than two co-authored papers for the Conference. Moreover, a session should feature no more than two papers submitted by the same organization. A standard session’s duration is 1.5 hours. Proposals for organizing sessions shall be considered by the Program Committee during the review stage and development of the Conference Program.

The Program Committee will send notifications of proposal acceptance by January 25, 2019, after considering the results of reviews made by independent experts. Papers included in the Program following expert reviews by the Program Committee’s members have the option of being published in leading Russian journals on economics, sociology, management, public administration, etc., which are cited in the Scopus and WoS databases.

The authors of papers included in the Conference Program must send full-text versions of their papers (in a MS Word, RTF or PDF file) by March 11, 2019 for further publication on the Conference’s website.

The Conference will take place at HSE’s main buildings.
