On December 10th, the International Laboratory’s own Tatiana Khavenson finished her trip to Stanford University. Over the course of two weeks, Tatiana held working meetings with Martin Carnoy, the International Laboratory’s research supervisor, and Prashant Loyalka, the International Laboratory’s senior researcher. The team conducted analysis of newly published data (PISA 2012 test results), and discussed the application of various statistical models in this analysis. They also worked on a number of ongoing publications. Tatiana participated in Martin Carnoy’s graduate seminar, “The Difference between Private and Public Schools in the USA: Analysis Methods”.

In addition, Tatiana met with David Grusky, a well-known sociologist and the Director of the Center on Poverty and Inequality. David consulted with her on the laboratory’s research, speaking in particular about the ways in which social status functions in education.

The trip resulted in productive discussions on new research ideas, and laid the foundations for three new Laboratory-directed publications.
