Day of Knowledge for First-Year Students of the Master’s Degree Programmes

Giving oath near the monument to the anonymous reviewer, quest around the departments of the Institute, historical tour around the surrounding area – that is how the Day of Knowledge went for the first-year students of the master’s degree programmes “Measurement in Psychology and Education” and “Evidence-based Educational Policy”.

The Day of Knowledge opened with a welcoming speech by the head of the HSE Institute of Education Isak Frumin. He spoke about how in just a few years the Institute has become one of the lead schools in the field of higher education’s research. He also urged freshmen to work focusing on the result. The heads of the master’s programmes Elena Kardanova and Peter Safronov also said a few words to the students.

Freshmen said a comic oath near the monument to anonymous peer reviewer, promising to avoid plagiarism in their works, not to chat with friends during lectures and to attend seminars. After the official part students went to explore laboratories, whose staff had prepared different tasks for them. They had to connect current professors’ photos with their child ones; determine the type of a school director according to the excerpt from a movie; measure the head’s size with whatever they could find; solve tasks from the international studies TIMSS and PISA.

At the end, Peter Safronov took students on a historical tour around the Moscow’s city center where the Institute is located.
