Institute of Education kindly invites you to take part in the seminar “Challenges and Opportunity for Chinese TVET: perspective from economic sociology”. Seminar will take place on August 29 at 16-00 (auditorium 309 or on-line).

The event’s working language is English.

To participate online or via zoom please register.

The presentation focuses on the challenges and opportunities faced by Chinese TVET. Despite its increasing political significance, vocational education in China still has relatively low social status. After more than a decade of capacity building, the improvement of quality of TVET has been limited, especially in terms of students’ competence development. The policy efforts to improve permeability between TVET and higher education seem to have negative influence on the industry relevance of TVET. Regional divergence is presenting new challenges for TVET as well. However, with the development of industry and further expansion of higher education admission, opportunities may arise for TVET, which may enable its greater contribution to China’s modernization. The above mentioned issues and the social mechanism behind them will be analyzed and discussed from the perspective of economic sociology.
