Three HSE Educational Projects Receive Support of the European Commission
Funding through the European programme Erasmus+ will be allocated to the development of a Master’s programme in clinical linguistics, the organization of a summer school on institutional analysis, and the creation of Russia's first courses on education law.
The European Commission has announced the results of the competition for the Erasmus+ programme, which aims at supporting cooperation in higher education, vocational training and sports. Three HSE education and research projects won the competition.
Summer School on Institutional Analysis
The Russian Summer School on Institutional Analysis (RSSIA) has been held since 2007 by HSE Center for Institutional Studies. Since 2010, the school has been organized in English, with 5-7 professors from leading international universities (e.g., UCLA, MIT, Oxford, etc.) and 25-35 participants from different countries annually taking part in the event.
In 2017-2018, RSSIA will focus on countries with low quality institutions, which hamper economic growth and prevent the rectification of problems arising out of the economic crisis. According to RSSIA’s organizers, the results of the Erasmus+ competition reveal the school’s leading global reputation and, in addition, will help to attract more participants.
Education Law in Russian Universities
HSE is member of a consortium of universities led by the Free University of Brussels, which develops new disciplines and modules for training programmes for teachers and education researchers. HSE’s Institute of Education and, in particular, Center for Applied Legal Research are engaged in this project.
This project aims at popularizing education law as a research field, as well as improving the provision of teaching qualification to lecturers, who deliver courses on this topic. Such academic disciplines have not previously been part of any curriculum at any Russian university. Three of such disciplines are connected, firstly, with the study of constitutional rights in education, religious rights in education, religious freedom and arbitration courts; secondly, with the equality of students in their studies and legislation on inclusive education and instruction of students with exceptional skills; thirdly, with the legal review of disputes in teaching, recognition of qualifications and open mobility of students and teachers.
European Master in Clinical Linguistics
HSE is an associated partner of the European Master in Clinical Linguistics. This programme offers full-time, interdisciplinary and transnational instruction in neurolinguistics and clinical linguistics. The programme’s graduates are employed in academic, industrial and clinical sectors. The Master's programme is organized by the Universities of Groningen, Potsdam and Southern Finland, and has a network of associate partners (in addition to HSE, it also includes universities in the UK, USA, France, Belgium, Australia, etc.). Students will also have a chance to take part in laboratory projects.
The project is supervised by HSE’s Center for Language and Brain. Olga Dragoy, head of the Center, is a programme graduate. Students in the Master’s programme can take part in internships at the laboratory, while the lab’s staff deliver lectures during summer and winter schools in tandem with intensive courses under the European Master in Clinical Linguistics.
