Russian Educational Research Association Joins EERA: Unlocking New Prospects for Global Cooperation

Russian Educational Research Association (RERA), where the HSE Institute of Education (IOE) is one of the founding members, has recently completed formalities to join European Educational Research Association (EERA).

Set to push the frontiers of global R&D partnership, academic networking & exchange, funding, etc., this long-awaited alliance has notched an important landmark for both IOE and the Russian education research community on the whole.

Founded in 1994 and headquartered in Berlin, Germany, EERA now unites 35 national education research associations with an aim of advancing best-standard scholarship for the benefit of stakeholders across learning settings and communities.

Russian Educational Research Association (RERA) was established in 2017 by the HSE Institute of Education, Moscow City Pedagogical University, and the Moscow State University of Psychology and Education. Alongside representatives of these founding members, RERA’s Executive Council also includes accomplished experts from the Russian Academy of Sciences, Lomonosov Moscow State University, St. Petersburg State University, Herzen Russian State Pedagogical University, Kazan Federal University, Nizhny Novgorod State Pedagogical University, Tomsk State University, and Siberian Federal University.

Today, Russian Educational Research Association has more than 100 members and is actively growing. The RERA–EERA cooperation framework will spark an important momentum for more extensive and cohesive participation of Russian education researchers in the global academic agenda. Specifically, this means the creation of new international research partnerships, expanded community integration and career opportunities for young scholars, a range of benefits related to conference participation, institutional memberships and subscriptions, etc.

RERA’s joining EERA was in fact only a matter of time as both organizations have pursued essentially the same key imperatives of promoting best practices in education-focused research, teaching and professional networking. RERA is a large-scale, high-scope association that has embraced the academic capital of institutions making up the very backbone of Russian educational scholarship. At the moment, RERA members altogether account for nearly 70% of all WoS- and Scopus-indexed papers on education in this country.
