IOE Experts Take Part in International Conference at University of California Berkeley

A team of IOE researchers has recently visited the Center for Studies in Higher Education at the University of California Berkeley, the U.S. to take part in the international conference New Nationalism and Universities.

On November 16–17, 2017, the Center for Studies in Higher Education (CSHE) at the University of California Berkeley, the U.S. welcomed the conference New Nationalism and Universities, which celebrated CSHE’s 60th Anniversary. With broad attendance by the Center’s alumni, affiliated researchers and distinguished professionals from across the globe, the event has become a premier international venue for multi-perspective networking and debate about politics and policy in higher education.

Upon invitation by the Conference’s Organizing Committee, a team of experts with the HSE Institute of Education was visiting the UC Berkeley Campus this November to take part in the event. Vibrant sessions on how various aspects of nationalism have been influencing university systems at both reginal and international levels were participated by Isak Froumin, Head of the HSE Institute of Education, Igor Chirikov, HSE Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, Sergei Malinovsky, Deputy Head of the HSE Institute of Education, and Alexander Sidorkin, Leading Research Fellow at the HSE Institute of Education.

Since 2012, the UC Berkeley’s Center for Studies in Higher Education has been among the HSE Institute of Education’s key international partners across a broad and diverse academic scope. HSE plays an important role in administering a cross-border Student Experience in the Research University (SERU-I) Consortium. Consortium member universities from the U.S., China, Japan, Russia and Europe rely on findings drawn from the SERU-I survey as important guidance for improving their leaning environments and the quality of education.
