Experts at IOE and University Eötvös Lóránd to Join Forces in Studying Grassroots Innovation

Researchers at the HSE Institute of Education and University Eötvös Lóránd (Budapest, Hungary) have embarked on a large-scale joint project to explore the factors and mechanisms that drive the inception and diffusion of bottom-up educational innovations.

This project marks the first joint research initiative to be implemented within a long-term cooperation framework currently contemplated between IOE’s Center for Educational Innovation and their colleagues at Hungary’s University Eötvös Lóránd.

The project will focus on exploring the key drivers and evolutionary processes shaping the realm of bottom-up, or grassroots, educational innovation, which, unlike new developments prompted by the state, refers to those novelties that take their root as a result of direct efforts by various community stakeholders (i.e., teachers, parents, businesses, etc.).

As of the moment, the project participants are designing the overall framework for this study and establishing the research teams that will subsequently engage in the comparison of how bottom-up educational innovations develop and diffuse across various institutional settings in Hungary and Russia. Furthermore, the parties are also in talks about opportunities for academic exchange to be arranged as part of this research project.
