American SemyonovAward Recipient to Look at Higher Education’s Relation to Civic Engagement in Russia
Radomir ‘Ray’ Mitic just completed his PhD at New York University and will be joining the Council of Graduate Schools as a postdoctoral fellow this coming fall in Washington, D.C. This summer, he received an HSE SemyonovAward Research Internship to study civic engagement among Russian university students at the Institute of Education at HSE University. Last week, he participated in the International Summer School on Higher Education Research in St. Petersburg, and now he is conducting field research in Moscow. We spoke with Ray about his research, his impressions of the two Russian cities, and his future plans.

IOE Experts among Authors of Encyclopedia of International Higher Education Systems and Institutions
An article by IOE Academic Supervisor Isak Froumin and Junior Researcher Daria Platonova has been published in Encyclopedia of International Higher Education Systems and Institutions.
Experts of the HSE Institute of Education examined access to higher education in Russia and found that it varies across regions, and the possibility of getting a degree can be quite low in some parts of the country.
The meeting of International Advisory Committee starts December 6. Three newly appointed members of IAC have shared with HSE News Service their views on the role of external consultants in the development of universities, described their reasons for joining the committee and spoke about HSE’s academic reputation and the challenges the university faces.
The first International Conference on Excellence Initiatives took place in St. Petersburg from June 30 to July 2. It was organized by 5-100 Russian Academic Excellence project, and its participants came from 11 countries. Academic advisor of the HSE Institute of Education Isak Froumin and Institute’s junior research fellow Mikhail Lisyutkin were among the speakers at the conference.
The first OECD Higher Education Stakeholder Forum took place in Paris on June 17, attracting over 100 people from 30 countries, IoE Deputy Director among them. The aim of its participants was to generate suggestions on finalizing the design of two projects, which are the basis for the development of the sphere of higher education, implemented by OECD Education Policy Committee.
