In 2020, IOE was shortlisted as one of 21 venues worldwide to host this year’s guest Summer Schools held as part of the international Summer Institute in Computational Social Science (SICSS), an annual collaboration between Duke University and Princeton University.

Ruoqi Cao, from Harbin, China, graduated from HSE University’s Master’s programme in International Business. She is now working on her PhD at the HSE Institute of Education, where her research focuses on regional contributions of higher education in Russia and China.
Between August 5 and 10, the Sixth International Summer School ‘Applied Psychometrics in Psychology and Education’ took place at IOE.
As part of its exchange program with Politecnico di Milano, IOE will be welcoming a group of Italian students in Management Dell’Università MA in the coming fall of 2019 who will be taking an intensive two-day sojourn in Moscow beginning October 23. In turn, Russian students in IOE’s University Management MA will be traveling to Italy later this November to complete a series of program modules at Politecnico di Milano.
As the world is becoming more and more data-driven, how has the global boom in ICT been remolding the schooling realm and what are the key challenges and opportunities in making schools better prepared to get the most of digital innovation? These were among the key strands of networking and debate at this year’s International Summer School ‘Digital Environment and Inequality of Educational Opportunities’ that took place at IOE from June 30 to July 05.
From May 31 to June 6, 2019, IOE hosted the Seventh International Summer School on Higher Education Research that took place in the picturesque historic locality of Pushkin, near St. Petersburg. The theme of 2019 was “Theoretical and Conceptual Perspectives in Higher Education Research.” The Summer School brought together about 30 participants and faculty from different countries, including China, Eastern and Western Europe, India, Russia and the USA. The School program this year was specifically framed to cover key theories and concepts developed in sociology, economics, history, cultural and comparative studies as apply to higher education research.
Early this August, a picturesque historic location of HSE’s ‘Kochubey Mansion’ Training Center in Saint Petersburg, Russia welcomed testing professionals from over a dozen countries for IOE’s Fifth International Summer School ‘Applied Psychometrics in Education and Psychology.’ Instruction in the School was given by world-renowned experts in measurements and test development: Dr. Linda Cook (The National Center for the Improvement of Assessment), Dr. Mary Pitoniak (Educational Testing Service), Dr. Carol Myford (University of Illinois at Chicago), and Dr. Lidia Dobria (Wilbur Wright College & University of Illinois at Chicago).
