Radomir ‘Ray’ Mitic just completed his PhD at New York University and will be joining the Council of Graduate Schools as a postdoctoral fellow this coming fall in Washington, D.C. This summer, he received an HSE SemyonovAward Research Internship to study civic engagement among Russian university students at the Institute of Education at HSE University. Last week, he participated in the International Summer School on Higher Education Research in St. Petersburg, and now he is conducting field research in Moscow. We spoke with Ray about his research, his impressions of the two Russian cities, and his future plans.

Seventh International Summer School on Higher Education Research: An Enthralling Journey of Learning and Discovery
From May 31 to June 6, 2019, IOE hosted the Seventh International Summer School on Higher Education Research that took place in the picturesque historic locality of Pushkin, near St. Petersburg. The theme of 2019 was “Theoretical and Conceptual Perspectives in Higher Education Research.” The Summer School brought together about 30 participants and faculty from different countries, including China, Eastern and Western Europe, India, Russia and the USA. The School program this year was specifically framed to cover key theories and concepts developed in sociology, economics, history, cultural and comparative studies as apply to higher education research.

Early this August, a picturesque historic location of HSE’s ‘Kochubey Mansion’ Training Center in Saint Petersburg, Russia welcomed testing professionals from over a dozen countries for IOE’s Fifth International Summer School ‘Applied Psychometrics in Education and Psychology.’ Instruction in the School was given by world-renowned experts in measurements and test development: Dr. Linda Cook (The National Center for the Improvement of Assessment), Dr. Mary Pitoniak (Educational Testing Service), Dr. Carol Myford (University of Illinois at Chicago), and Dr. Lidia Dobria (Wilbur Wright College & University of Illinois at Chicago).

IOE Welcomes Sixth International Summer School on Higher Education Research
On June 9–15, the town of Pushkin near St. Petersburg, Russia hosted IOE’s Sixth International Summer School on Multidisciplinary Higher Education Research. Bringing together a premier cohort of accomplished international academics and bright early-career scholars, the 2018 School aimed to take new and deeper perspectives on how higher education can contribute to positive socio-economic change at all levels.

IOE Launches English-taught Doctoral Track in Educational Measurement & Testing

The spring of 2018 heralds a momentous addition to IOE’s graduate curriculum, as a new English-taught PhD track in Educational Measurement & Testing has been launched at the IOE Doctoral Center for Education. The track is slated to welcome its first class in the fall of 2018. International students can apply for Russian government scholarships until March 31, 2018. General application round is from August 1 until September 14.

IOE Hosts Academic Visit by Prof. Ben Eklof

Dr. Ben Eklof, a Professor at Indiana University’s School of Education and one of HSE’s long-standing academic partners, is visiting at the HSE Institute of Education through mid-March 2018 to contribute to IOE’s R&D projects and advise doctoral students.
