The head of the HSE Institute of Education, Professor Isak Froumin, has joined the journal International Review of Education as a consulting editor. David Atchoarena, the publication’s editor-in-chief and the director of the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning, recently informed the Institute of Education he was extending this offer.

Tatiana Khavenson, a research fellow at the IOE International Laboratory for Education Policy Analysis, has been acknowledged by Scopus Awards Russia 2018 as the most frequently cited scholar in ‘Education.’

This year’s International Russian Higher Education Conference (RHEC), which is to get underway at HSE Moscow on October 24, will welcome a brand-new venue to promote early-career research in higher education, Innovative Proceedings & Analytics Symposium.

Russian Education Research Association (RERA) has started its membership in World Education Research Association (WERA). All formalities were completed and a membership decision was made during this year’s WERA Global Congress that was held in Cape Town, South Africa in early August.

Dr. Irina Abankina, Director of the Institute for Education Development, Tenured Professor and Member of the HSE Academic Council, spoke about her life in academia and work at HSE, for the project ‘Research at HSE: For School and for Life’.

The HSE Academic Honors Award acknowledges contribution to high-impact scholarship and the advancement of multifaceted cooperation in global science and education.

Russian Educational Research Association (RERA), where the HSE Institute of Education (IOE) is one of the founding members, has recently completed formalities to join European Educational Research Association (EERA).

IOE doctoral student Irina Shcheglova has recently completed her internship with the Center for Studies in Higher Education at the University of California Berkeley (the USA). Immediately after she returned to Moscow, Irina was thrilled to finally share with IOE fellows about the academic experiences she has gained and her overall impressions of this trip.

On November 27, the HSE Academic Council held an awards ceremony dedicated to the university’s 25th anniversary. The meeting saw the participation of representatives of the Russian President, members of government, and members of the Russian Federal Assembly. Government awards recognizing tremendous accomplishments and outstanding service were given to a number of HSE employees, including IOE experts Isak Froumin and Igor Chirikov.

On October 6–8, 2017, the town of Kratovo, Macedonia welcomed the 5^th International Festival of Ethnographic Films. This Fest is a vibrant forum for students, filmmakers, anthropologists and multidisciplinary scholars to discuss visual methods in ethnographic research, the most pressing cultural and socioeconomic issues confronting indigenous communities across the globe, and the implications of evidence drawn from visual anthropology for broader social studies, including education. Upon a special invitation from the Fest’s organizing committee, IOE expert Alexei Obukhov traveled to Kratovo this fall to take part in the event.
