The 1st International Conference on Initiatives of Academic Excellence

The first International Conference on Excellence Initiatives took place in St. Petersburg from June 30 to July 2. It was organized by 5-100 Russian Academic Excellence project, and its participants came from 11 countries. Academic advisor of the HSE Institute of Education Isak Froumin and Institute’s junior research fellow Mikhail Lisyutkin were among the speakers at the conference.

For the first time ever, the leaders of education studies centres from some of the world’s leading research universities met at the HSE Academic Centre in Pushkin, Russia. At the meeting, the researchers, along with a representative from OECD, discussed how education studies departments should change to meet the global challenges that face the sphere of education.

New meetings and new plans for international cooperation

Major scientist in the field of Education Law and Policy, Professor Jan De Groof was on a work visit at the HSE Institute of Education to discuss perspectives of creation of the International Center for Education Law and Policy at the Institute.

On Cultural Sociology in Educational Research at Annual Yale Conference

The annual Spring Conference organized by the Sociology Department and the Center for Cultural Sociology at Yale University took place in late April. One of its sections was devoted to a new sub-discipline, cultural sociology of education, emerging with a valuable contribution of the Centre for Cultural Sociology and Anthropology of Education at the HSE Institute of Education.

HSE and Berkeley to Conduct Joint Research

The HSE Institute of Education and the University of California – Berkeley (USA) have signed a memorandum to jointly administer an international Student Experience in the Research University (SERU) Consortium until 2020. The memorandum calls for the two universities to implement a major four-year project on higher education studies involving over 30 universities from various countries.

Dr. Werner Binder (Masaryk University, Czech Republic) on Cultural Sociology and Cooperation with the IoE

Dr. Werner Binder of Masaryk University, Czech Republic, a specialist in cultural sociology, has been in collaboration with the HSE Institute of Education for a couple of years. During his visit to Moscow two years ago, Dr. Binder gave public lectures and headed a workshop at the IoE. In the interview, he dwells on the participation in the IoE project “Trajectories in Education and Career”, as well as his cooperation with Dmitry Kurakin, Director of the Center for Cultural Sociology and Anthropology of Education.

Participation in SERU International Symposium at Tongji University, China

The Institute of Education has taken part in the organization of SERU symposium, themed “Data-driven improvement of student experience at research universities in Asia”, that was held in Shanghai in January.

‘Global Competition and Collaboration Strategies of Research Universities in China and Russia’ workshop at University of Hong Kong

HSE researchers have attended a workshop dubbed “Global Competition and collaboration Strategies of Research Universities in China and Russia”, which took place on December 16-17.

16th Annual AEA-Europe Conference

The 16th Annual AEA-Europe conference, dedicated to the Assessment and Social Justice, was held in Glasgow on November 4-8. Over 300 participants took part in the event this year.
