In June 2017, IOE welcomed a two-day seminar of the International Academic Consortium working as part of the landmark Key Competencies and New Literacy project, a joint initiative between IOE and Sberbank’s Investment in Future charity foundation. Dr. Jarkko Hautamäki, Emeritus Professor at the University of Helsinki (Finland), took part in the seminar to present about global 21st century skills agenda and Finnish experience in tailoring national education systems to better meet new literacy challenges. In an interview following the seminar sessions, Dr. Hautamäki shared some deeper perspectives on the role of talent upgrades in today’s era of rapid technological advancements and network economy.

On March 30–31, Paris welcomed a regular OECD meeting of participants in the Education and Social Progress (ESP) international study, which addresses the development of social and emotional skills at school. Russia was represented by a team of experts with the IOE Centre for Monitoring the Quality in Education (CMQE).
On February 20–21, IOE hosted a series of kickoff discussions as part of a landmark 21st century skills project between Sberbank and HSE.
On June 17–18, Deans of Schools of Education from leading research universities gathered in the town of Pushkin, near St. Petersburg, Russia. The Summit entitled “Schools of Education at Research Universities: Challenges, Opportunities, Collaboration” was organized by the Institute of Education, Higher School of Economics, and the Graduate School of Education, Peking University.
For the first time ever, the leaders of education studies centres from some of the world’s leading research universities met at the HSE Academic Centre in Pushkin, Russia. At the meeting, the researchers, along with a representative from OECD, discussed how education studies departments should change to meet the global challenges that face the sphere of education.
