From December 16 to 20, IOE is hosting its International Week of Education Law 2019, a prime venue for global experts in law and policy to exchange perspectives on how best practices across dimensions of educational governance are designed and deployed at both international, national, community, and institutional levels. We have talked to Dr. Bill Maxwell, former Chief Executive of Education Scotland who is among the key presenters for this year’s Law Week, about what he thinks of the regulatory reform in the dimension of educational monitoring and assessment that has been unfolding in Russia, his conception of how a robust schema of authority and accountability in educational QA should be configured, etc.

World-renowned edutainment expert and entrepreneur in extended L&D, Dr. Ger Graus, OBE has recently commenced his sojourn with IOE as a Guest Professor at the Center for General and Extracurricular Education. During his term, Dr. Graus will be contributing across multiple strands of the Center’s research and networking agenda.

Earlier this fall, Stockholm, Sweden welcomed educational researchers, strategists and institutional leaders from across the globe for the Second WERA-IRN Conference on ‘Extended Education,’ a dimension of learning & development that embraces a vast array of practices and activities beyond the general curriculum that unfold both within and outside the regular school perimeter. IOE experts Sergey Kosaretsky and Mikhail Goshin took part in the forum to present about how different strategies of parental involvement in formal schooling impact the odds of children’s success in extracurriculars.

The tenth International Russian Higher Education Conference (RHEC) kicked off at the HSE University Moscow this week and will last until October 25. Bringing together over 400 participants from 15 countries, this year’s forum focuses on ‘Contributions of Higher Education to Society and Economy: Global, National and Local Perspectives.’

In late September, IOE hosted the Second Russia–China Conference, Digital Transformation of Education and Artificial Intelligence. The event has offered a multifaceted forum for leading experts from the two countries to foreground and share the most important research, policy and practical perspectives in how the digital stride has been remolding various dimensions of the national education systems.

On August 22, HSE leaders, including the University Rector Yaroslav Kuzminov and Head of IOE Isak Froumin, met with Jaime Saavedra, Director of the World Bank's Education Global Practice.

Between August 22 and 27, Kazan, Russia is hosting the 45^th WorldSkills international vocational championship that brings together over 1,300 young mid-skilled blue- and white-collar professionals from 63 countries who compete in 56 specializations. As part of WorldSkills Kazan 2019, a global Ministers of Education Summit was held last week where agency heads and top executives at the system level from more than 40 participant nations exchanged perspectives on key challenges and opportunities in deploying more robust frameworks for vocational monitoring and testing.

Between August 5 and 10, the Sixth International Summer School ‘Applied Psychometrics in Psychology and Education’ took place at IOE. 

At IOE, we have ploughed more and more effort in recent years in expanding and invigorating the program of learning & networking that we offer early-career scholars from multiple corners of the globe and with diverse perspectives in educational research. Proudly inaugurated this year in association with the World Bank, the First International Summer School ‘The Role of Education in National and Regional Socioeconomic Development’ has become an enriching and timely addition to IOE’s summer academic agenda of 2019.

Moscow has recently welcomed a premier cohort of international experts in psychology and psychometrics representing OECD, other global organizations, national R&D hubs, etc. for the 16^th European Congress of Psychology, one of the world’s most established academic venues to comprehensively tackle a diverse theoretical and applied agenda in the field. IOE scholars Tatjana Kanonire, Ekaterina Orel and Alena Kulikova took part in the Congress to contribute to the discussion of findings from the pilot stage in the large-scale international Study of Social and Emotional Skills (SSES) project that is spearheaded by OECD.
