On 29 September, the Institute of Education held an HSE Open Seminar on Education, featuring Nirmala Rao. In her presentation, she examined how preschool education systems and home learning environments shape early childhood development, and how they contribute to inequalities in school readiness across different socioeconomic and cultural contexts.

The CERE Observatory on Education, a joint international research initiative co-founded by the HSE Institute of Education, has completed its 2025–2026 Expert Seminar Series, “ TVET Systems in BRICS Countries: Landscape and Contexts .” The series sparked a broader discussion about the changing nature of education, skills, work and social opportunity—and what comparative education research should examine next.

How can a fast-growing economy provide enough employment opportunities for its growing working-age population? This question lies at the heart of India Out of Work: Rethinking India’s Growth Story, a new book by Jajati Keshari Parida and Santosh Mehrotra. Jajati Parida is a Professor of Economics at the University of Hyderabad and Santosh Mehrotra is a Professor of Economics at the Centre for Labour Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University. He is also a Visiting Lead Fellow at the HSE Institute of Education, and a member of the CERE Observatory Expert Board.
