Dr. Werner Binder of Masaryk University, Czech Republic, a specialist in cultural sociology, has been in collaboration with the HSE Institute of Education for a couple of years. During his visit to Moscow two years ago, Dr. Binder gave public lectures and headed a workshop at the IoE. In the interview, he dwells on the participation in the IoE project “Trajectories in Education and Career”, as well as his cooperation with Dmitry Kurakin, Director of the Center for Cultural Sociology and Anthropology of Education.

The 45th annual conference of the Philosophy of Education Society of Australasia (PESA) had a chance to listen to a report from Russia. It was made by IoE researcher Petr Safronov.
On 4th - 7th November the annual conference of the Association for the Study of Higher Education, ASHE took place in Denver, Colorado. Incorporated in 1976 ASHE is the oldest professional association in higher education studies and has more than 2,000 members, mostly Americans.
Professor Martin Carnoy of Stanford University and visiting professor at the Higher School of Economics, and Tatiana Khavenson, Research Fellow at the HSE Institute of Education, were among the authors of the report ‘An Analysis of the Impact of Education Policies on Student Achievement in the United States’, which was recently presented in Washington, DC. The key provisions of this report are of use when it comes to analyzing the situation in Russian education.
